PCFEC to boost its power generation and transmission capacity
The Managing Director of the Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company (PGFEC) said: Fajr Co is to add two transformers and then three turbine - generators to the 400 KW substation development plan according to its new plan to develop its power plants in order to increase its power generation and transmission capacity.

Referring to the implementation phase of the 400 KV substation development project, Abdollah Alipanah Bahnemiri said in an interview with the reporter of Fajr Co Public Relations:Electricity is the most strategic product of Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company, which indeed plays a special role in the sustainability of petrochemical production in the region, as well”.

Reiterating that Fajr Energy Co - along with its two power plants - has the capacity to generate 1147 Megawatt hours of electricity, he said: “The electricity generated in the two power plants is transmitted to the two distribution and transmission stations after boosting the electrical voltage level of 132 KW, and finally is delivered to the regional companies or the national electricity network”.

Alipanah said: Along with guaranteeing the stability of electricity supply to the petrochemical industries in the Special Economic Zone, the company also injects 500 MWs hours of electricity (instantaneous power) into the national network for the comfort of the respectful people of the Khuzestan province during the hot months of the year.

The substations in the Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company are divided into two types of AIS aerial substations and GIS substations. GIS substations are a sort of electrical switches that consumes SF6 gas to complete the insulation work of electrical components. This allows us to place several power switches next to each other in a minimum space.

Pointing out that the AIS aerial power transmission lines are also located in the 400 KW substation section of the company, the Managing Director of Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company said: The two transformers in this substation - each of which with a capacity of 315 MV ampere - are set to increase the voltage from 132 KW to 400 KW. AIS aerial substations are also set to connect the electricity network of the company to the national electricity network by using the aerial power transmission lines in order to make the sending and receiving (transmission) of the electricity possible.

If any of the transformers faces a problem, all electric charges will be transmitted to another transformer, a process which is always getting monitored and supervised by some technical experts as already defined in an intelligent program.

Alipanah continued: while any of these transformers is disconnected from power circuit, an electricity generation turbine will also be removed from the circuit, as well so that the electrical load on the other transformer get adjusted based on the capacity of the transformer.

He also continued: Considering the importance of the aerial substation and increasing the power transmission capacity and also maintaining the stability of the power generation, the development of the 400 KW substation is recognized as a strategic need, as well.

In this regard, a strategic project was defined with the help of an engineering studies consultant, and then the necessary licenses have subsequently been obtained, too. The project includes some parts such as: designing, engineering, ordering, manufacturing and then the installation of the transformers, the GIS gas switches, the cables, the high voltage cables and other peripheral equipment and also preparing the necessary infrastructures and implementation of some constructional operations.

The manager of the Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company said: At the first stage of the project we ordered two power transformers with technical characteristics of 400 KW to 132 KW with a power of 315 MWA made by a domestic company in order to develop the 400 KW substation. Due to the heavy traffic nature of the commodity, the power transformers - after manufacturing and assemblage and also passing the necessary laboratory tests - had been transferred to Bandar Abbas port through waterways and then to Imam Khomeini’s commercial port and they finally arrived to destination (the location) of the 400 KW substation. We have ordered the Iranian manufacturers to manufacture them in order to rely more on the domestic capabilities and show our support to them.

He reminded: Other parts of the project to develop the 400 KV substation have been carried out after passing the necessary phases such as designing, ordering and manufacturing with the help of the Iranian and some non-Iranian manufacturers and then been delivered. We have also obtained the necessary licenses for the construction and infrastructure sectors and now they are now at the stage of holding the tender.

Alipanah, the Manager of the Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company finally went on by saying that a new project has been started along with the implementation of the plan to develop the 400 KW substation, in order to increase the capacity of the power plant in District 2 through adding 3 turbine generators to the substation. The project has so far passed the reviewing stage and will start to select the contractor and start the executive operations after being approved by the board of directors.
