FEPG Connects Old, New Cooling Towers

FEPG Connects Old, New Cooling Towers
MAHSHAHR (FEPG) -- Over the course of three days, a pivotal location ensuring the sustainability of the petrochemical industries in the special economic zone, southwestern Iran, witnessed the simultaneous execution of two projects.

According to the public relations department of Fajr Energy Persian Gulf Company (FEPG), cooling towers, crucial for water cooling and recirculation in industries, were designed to serve this purpose during the establishment of the water unit in Region 1.

Initially, two cooling towers were designed to be interconnected for temperature exchange and regulation processes. However, with the necessity arising for the construction of an additional tower to enhance operational maneuverability, maintenance, and improve the stability coefficient of the cooling towers, a new cell (capable of connecting to the existing tower) was designed, installed, and constructed.

A meticulous plan was devised to support the sustainable operation of the towers, aiming to safely connect both towers, a feat successfully accomplished in January (for the connection of two cells, cooling towers need to be taken out of service).

This report underscores that with the engineering design by FEPG engineers and meticulous planning, training, and execution of various scenarios and the identification of safe project methods, the connection project of old and new cooling tower cells commenced.

In this project, after removing the cooling towers from service, cutting and coring operations between the two towers commenced alongside simultaneous operations of drainage, cleaning, and operational reconstruction.

Additionally, the restoration and waterproofing project was executed in the shortest possible time (51 hours) and recorded 1800 person-hours of work. According to experts, the speed of cleaning and waterproofing operations with this number of person-hours marks a successful record in the petrochemical industry.

The project to restore concrete cooling towers, carried out over three consecutive days with the participation of cohesive and diverse teams aimed at supporting the towers in emergencies and connecting existing electric pumps, simultaneously witnessed the complete restoration of the internal structures of the older cooling tower cells.

Noteworthy aspects of this project include the simultaneous execution of coring operations (cutting reinforced concrete cylindrical walls) with a diameter of 40 inches and the application of a two-part polymer waterproofing membrane, along with the project to install a gate for the second strainer inlet of the cooling pumps.

The achievements of connecting the two sets together include preventing water loss, extending the lifespan of structures for an extended period, and enabling separate operations for maintenance and operation tasks.
