The clearest definition of social responsibility is the accountability of an organization for the effects it has on its surrounding business environment — an environment that includes all people and the planet itself (in proportion to the impact). As a utility industry, Fajr Energy Persian Gulf strives to embed this concept within its corporate culture, implementing targeted programs to fulfill its social responsibility and pursuing new objectives in this regard.
Remaining committed to this ethical framework, Fajr Energy Persian Gulf has designed initiatives for its local community. These actions have been ongoing in recent years and are carried out in cooperation with other companies in the Petrochemical Special Economic Zone through its Strategic Council. This council consists of the CEOs of petrochemical companies based in the zone, making decisions on social responsibility expenditures. Defining the council’s projects and addressing Mahshahr County’s needs fall under the responsibility of a committee comprising the county’s senior managers.
At its core mission, Fajr Energy is a company committed to sustainability in economic, social, and environmental dimensions and does not limit its view to ad-hoc or isolated activities. By principle and under the oversight of the Department of Environment, it treats the industrial wastewater of large-scale plants in the region — operating two large wastewater treatment units that serve as a symbol of environmental stewardship both at the industry and national level.
In addition to creating value for its shareholders and fulfilling commitments to its industrial clients, the company supports the people of Khuzestan during the hot months by supplying 500 megawatts of instantaneous electricity to the national grid. This assists the Ministry of Energy in reducing household blackouts and provides comfort and peace of mind to families during the 4–5 hottest months of the year (from early May to late September). This responsibility is met through the conscientious approach of Fajr Energy and careful long- and short-term planning. The company has also worked to reduce water consumption in industry by recycling water in its treatment units.
To improve public welfare in Bandar Mahshahr, and through the Strategic Council, the company donated over 30,000 meters of insulated aerial cable and lighting equipment worth more than 70 billion rials (from the 2023 social responsibility budget) to the Electricity Departments of Bandar Mahshahr and Bandar Imam. This has helped electrify homes and improve power transmission infrastructure. For the current year, a further 100 billion rials has been allocated for similar donations as part of the 2024 budget, now in the implementation phase.
As part of its Strategic Council commitments to the people of Bandar Imam, Fajr Energy purchased a laparoscopic surgery system worth over 30 billion rials for Navid Hospital.
For Arbaeen 2024, the company, in alignment with other regional firms and unified decisions, supported the promotion of the Hussaini culture and commemoration of this religious event — contributing more than 23.5 billion rials to cultural organizations, and donating two ice-making machines, a cold storage unit, and a 3,000-liter tank.
In cooperation with regional companies via the Strategic Council, Fajr Energy also contributed 40 billion rials to provide housing for underprivileged families supported by the Imam Khomeini Relief Committee in Bandar Imam.
Following Strategic Council approval, the company continued annual allocations, spending over 5 billion rials on health, road lighting, and security services along the route between workers’ homes and the factory. Additionally, to honor Khuzestan’s medalists in Olympic and Paralympic competitions, it donated 1.5 billion rials.
The company also resolved the electrical issues of the Shahid Cultural Center in Bandar Mahshahr and purchased essential equipment for it at a cost exceeding 1.6 billion rials, approved by its Board of Directors.
After multiple sessions of the county’s Green Movement Task Force — aimed at planting one billion trees nationwide to promote sustainable development, curb climate change, and expand coastal green areas — Fajr Energy began planting 30,000 mangrove saplings in the creeks of Bandar Mahshahr. This was done in partnership with capable local companies, selected through a public call, under the direct supervision of the County Department of Natural Resources, in the second half of 2023.
In other areas of social responsibility, the company also approved and delivered services totaling 120 billion rials.
Combined, these initiatives — alongside ongoing infrastructure projects — brought Fajr Energy Persian Gulf’s social responsibility spending in the first nine months of 2024 to over 334 billion rials. It should be noted that the execution dates of these projects and the reporting dates may not always align, with precise financial records documented separately in official statements.
