Fajr Energy on Track to Become an Energy Hub; 2,100 MW of Power Capacity to Return by March 2028
The Director of Rehabilitation and Modernization Projects at Fajr Energy Persian Gulf Company has announced significant progress in debris removal operations at Fajr 1 and Fajr 2 power plants, along with plans to restore 1,100 MW of power generation capacity in Zone 1 by March 2028.
He also stated that, with the implementation of new development projects, Fajr Energy’s total capacity will reach 3,100 MW of electricity and 900 tonnes per hour of steam, positioning the company as a major energy hub serving the petrochemical industries of the region and the country.
Dr. Ali Panah Behnamiri, Director of Rehabilitation and Modernization Projects at Fajr Energy Persian Gulf Company, reported significant progress in debris removal and equipment separation operations at Fajr 1 and Fajr 2 power plants.
He said that operations are progressing simultaneously at both power plants, with Fajr 2 having completed 45% and Fajr 1 having completed 38% of their respective planned debris removal activities.
According to current projections, debris removal operations at Fajr 2 are expected to be completed within the next two months, while the corresponding operations at Fajr 1 are expected to be completed within four months, taking into account the security conditions prevailing in the country.
According to Fajr Energy’s Public Relations Department, Dr. Panah Behnamiri highlighted the company’s strategic cooperation with industry partners, stating:
“MAPNA has been selected as the contractor for Fajr 1 Power Plant. The contract for the construction of a new power plant in this zone is in the final stages of completion, and site mobilization activities began last week. In accordance with the project schedule, we expect 1,100 MW of electricity generation capacity, out of the 1,470 MW combined-cycle capacity planned for Zone 1, to return to operation by March 2028.”
Regarding the development of additional capacity required by companies operating in the region, he said that a public tender has been held for the construction of a 1,620 MW combined-cycle power plant at Fajr 2. The project contractor is expected to be selected and construction activities to commence by September 22, 2027.
Upon completion of this mega-project, Fajr Energy’s total capacity will reach 3,100 MW of electricity and 900 tonnes per hour of steam, transforming Fajr Energy into a major energy hub for the petrochemical industries of the region and the country.
At the conclusion, the Director of Fajr Energy’s Rehabilitation and Modernization Projects emphasized the national importance of the project and called on the relevant authorities and licensing bodies to provide special support by accelerating the process of obtaining the required permits and approvals.
